Hausdorff School on modeling and analysis of evolutionary problems in materials science
23.09.2019 - 27.09.2019
Location:
Bonn, GermanyOrganisers:
Marco Bonacini (Trento), Sebastian Schwarzacher (Prague), and Juan J.L. Velázquez (Bonn)Description:
The modern analysis of evolutionary Partial Differential Equations that are motivated by applications to materials science has seen the development of several different approaches and techniques. Among these, a paramount position is occupied by the analysis of rate-independent systems, fluid structure interactions, and gradient flows. The successful analysis on the respective PDEs inherits different challenges, where recent progress has been made and new questions have risen. The school intends to allow a comparison and an interchange of ideas, on how to analyze the different hyperbolic, parabolic or quasi-static phenomena. By bringing together some of the leading experts in these subjects, this Hausdorff School aims at giving an overview of several PDE approaches to the analysis of evolutionary problems, in light of the recent advances. It is mainly directed at introducing graduate students and postdocs to these topics and to new directions at the intersection of materials sciences and the analysis of Partial Differential Equations.
The school consists of four main lecture series given by the following leading experts:
- Céline Grandmont (Inria, Paris)
- Josef Málek (Charles University, Prague)
- Alexander Mielke (WIAS Berlin)
- Mark Peletier (TU Eindhoven)
In case you are interested in participating, please fill out the
application form
. Limited financial support is available. The deadline for applications is 15th June 2019. Applicants will be notified in early July. Late applications may be considered until the summer school is fully booked.

10.07.2017 - 14.07.2017
Location:

This workshop is aimed at advancing the research in the field of Aggregation-Diffusion Partial Differential Equations (PDEs). They constitute the basic language in which most of the nonlocal phenomena, appearing for instance in swarming effects or in Levy processes in mathematical finance, can be written and one of the most important mathematical tools for modelling in life and socio-economical sciences. The modelling based on such PDEs and their mathematical analysis, complemented by the design of numerical schemes and their simulation in applications, are the main topics of the conference. We will concentrate on models where the non-locality of operators is the most important difficulty.
