From interacting particle systems to kinetic equations: modelling, control, and numerical methods

Description: The aim of the school "From interacting particle systems to kinetic equations" is to give a general overview on the mathematical modelling of multi-agent systems ranging from their microscopic description up to mesoscopic, and macroscopic approximation. In particular we will focus on rigorous derivation of mean-field and hydrodynamical models. A substantial part of the school will be dedicated to the development of efficient numerical methods for non-linear PDEs models with some tutorial sessions, covering also novel research topics in this field such as optimal control theory, and uncertainty quantification. The school is organized in 3 mini-courses, held by senior speakers, and 3 focused seminars, held by young researchers. There will be also the opportunity for Ph.D. students, and participants to give a short communication about their research topics.

Winter School on Fluid Dynamics, Dispersive Equations and Quantum Fluids

Program: The School aims at presenting cutting-edge techniques and approaches in the fields of fluid dynamics and quantum fluids. The courses are addressed to Master and PhD students as well as to Post-doctoral and young researchers, with a good expertise in analysis, who are interested in these vital areas of PDEs. The program will consist of three courses (8h each) and four seminars.
Registration: The organizers invite all the interested participants to register by sending an email to ancona@math.unipd.it or marson@math.unipd.it within December 2nd, 2018.
Lodging: The organization will cover the expenses of a limited number of rooms for MS and PHD students or for Junior Researchers at Kassianeum-Youth Hostel of Bressanone (KYH). When you submit your registration, please include a short CV if you wish to apply for a room at KYH.

Fifth Workshop on thin structures

Description: A thin structure is a three-dimensional object with one or two vanishing dimensions, such as a thin film, a plate, a shell, a beam, a capillary vessel, a network, etc. The response of a beam to stresses, the behavior of a tire on a wet road, the heat diffusion by a radiator, the flow of a fluid in connected pipes, as well as magnetism phenomena in thin films are just examples of questions concerning thin structures.
The aim of this workshop is to bring together experts from different horizons, in order to present and discuss the most recent results concerning mathematical models of thin structures, as well as numerical analysis methods for the validation of solutions and their implementation.

Women in applied and computational Mathematics

Description: This three-day event is designed for researchers challenged by the application of various techniques in modern analysis and computational mathematics to intriguing problems arising in physics, material science and biology. The main purpose of the workshop is on the one hand to provide a stimulating environment for scientific discussions and collaborations for both junior researchers and experts and, on the other hand, to be a platform to address the question of supporting women participation in research, which will be the goal of a dedicated panel session. The conference will consist of ten plenary lectures delivered by expert female researchers in the field. Short contributed talks will be given by young participants. The workshop will be a key activity of the European Innovating Training Network ModCompSchock (Modelling and computation of shock and interfaces) with the aim to attract women to a career in science by promoting the presence of female speakers already involved in research. A financial support will be available for a limited number of female PhD students and Postdocs, but we highly encourage the participation of both female and male mathematicians. Workshop on "Aggregation-Diffusion PDEs: Variational Principles, Nonlocality and Systems"

Description: This workshop is aimed at advancing the research in the field of Aggregation-Diffusion Partial Differential Equations (PDEs). They constitute the basic language in which most of the nonlocal phenomena, appearing for instance in swarming effects or in Levy processes in mathematical finance, can be written and one of the most important mathematical tools for modelling in life and socio-economical sciences. The modelling based on such PDEs and their mathematical analysis, complemented by the design of numerical schemes and their simulation in applications, are the main topics of the conference. We will concentrate on models where the non-locality of operators is the most important difficulty.
